LAM Teknik

Lembaga Akreditasi Mandiri Teknik (LAM Teknik) is an independent accreditation agency responsible for conducting the accreditation process for engineering study programs in Indonesia. Based on Undang-Undang No. 12 Tahun 2012 tentang Pendidikan Tinggi, Article 55 paragraph (6), the accreditation of study programs is carried out by Lembaga Akreditasi Mandiri (LAM), while Badan Akreditasi Nasional Perguruan Tinggi (BAN-PT) focuses on the development of the national accreditation system and the accreditation of higher education institutions. Furthermore, Peraturan Menteri Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan No. 5 Tahun 2020 tentang Akreditasi Program Studi dan Perguruan Tinggi, Article 36 paragraph (2), states that Lembaga Akreditasi Mandiri is established based on scientific clusters, scientific trees, and/or branches of knowledge.

Engineering is one of the scientific trees within the sixth cluster of applied sciences as stipulated in Undang-Undang No. 12 Tahun 2012. Engineering is also one of the eight professions covered under the ASEAN Memorandum of Arrangement, making it essential to continuously maintain and improve the quality of engineering higher education. At the international level, the quality of engineering higher education may be benchmarked against internationally recognized external quality assurance systems such as the Washington Accord (WA), which was established in 1989 by accreditation bodies from Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, New Zealand, and the United States.

Nearly every developed country has a specialized accreditation body dedicated to assuring the quality of engineering education. Therefore, Indonesia established LAM Teknik as an independent accreditation agency with accreditation instruments specifically designed for engineering disciplines, enabling continuous quality improvement and ensuring public accountability in the implementation of engineering higher education programs.

Based on this initiative, under the auspices of Persatuan Insinyur Indonesia (PII) as the representative of the engineering community in Indonesia, LAM Teknik was established through Surat Nomor 11125/MPK.A/HK.2021 dated 18 February 2021. LAM Teknik was officially introduced to the public during a symbolic launching ceremony by the Menteri Pendidikan, Kebudayaan, Riset dan Teknologi on 10 August 2021 in conjunction with Hari Kebangkitan Teknologi Nasional (HAKTEKNAS).

With the establishment of this community-based independent accreditation agency in the engineering field, LAM Teknik is expected to support the Government and society by assessing the feasibility of newly established engineering study programs as a basis for granting operational permits, evaluating existing engineering study programs as part of the mandatory external quality assurance process conducted periodically, and fostering a sustainable quality culture within engineering study programs.

The Undergraduate Mechanical Engineering Study Program of Universitas Udayana has demonstrated its commitment to delivering high-quality higher education by achieving the Excellent accreditation status from Lembaga Akreditasi Mandiri Teknik (LAM Teknik). This accreditation was granted based on Keputusan LAM Teknik Nomor 0085/SK/LAM Teknik/AS/IV/2026, with a validity period from 21 April 2026 to 20 April 2031. This achievement confirms that the Undergraduate Mechanical Engineering Study Program has fulfilled the quality standards established by LAM Teknik and reflects the study program's commitment to continuous quality assurance, the enhancement of education, research, and community service, as well as the development of competent and globally competitive graduates.
